In the past several years, there have been dramatic advancements in realizing molecular-scale electronic (moletronics) devices, such as wires, rectifiers, switches, etc. It is anticipated that in not too distant future, computers built solely from molecules will become a practical reality. With this promise are also associated daunting challenges concerning the assembly, fabrication, and integration of such devices. Central to meeting these challenges is developing a detailed theoretical understanding of the physics of molecules for application in electronics. This talk will discuss the physics of moletronics devices and highlight some of the issues associated with realizing them.
