We report the results of our work on the application of generalized-ensemble methods to the study of helix formation and folding in protein-like molecules. It is shown that under certain conditions helix-formation can be understood as a phase transition. Our results depend strongly on the form in that the protein-solvent interaction is described. The phase transition is characterized through the analyzing the simulation results of different chain lengths. We discuss then shortly the role of helix-formation in the folding process. we also discuss work on sheet formation that we have compare with our results for helices.
