Past, Present and What
Future?
After the discovery of Recoil-Free Gamma Ray Resonance by Rudolph Mossbauer in 1957, many laboratories studied this effect. The measurement of the gravitational red shift on earth was a demonstration of the great sensitivity of this technique. The study of chemical compounds changed the concept of valence and clearly showed the electrical and magnetic interactions with the nucleus.
Mossbauer Spectroscopy gradually shifted from a specialty to a general application along with other techniques. Along with that change came a new application, which will be discussed.
