NASA's TIMED-SEE Instrument Overview

On December 7, 2001 the TIMED (Thermosphere Ionosphere Mesosphere Energetics and Dynamics) satellite, NASA's first Solar Terrestrial Probe, was successfully launched from Vandenburg Air Force Base. TIMED is studying the influences of the Sun and humans on the least explored and understood region of Earth's atmosphere - the Mesosphere and Lower Thermosphere/Ionosphere (MLTI). The TIMED mission will establish a baseline against which future studies of changes within this region can be compared. SEE (the Solar EUV Experiment) is one of four TIMED instruments. SEE was designed and constructed at the University of Colorado's Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics where it is also being operated. Preliminary results of solar observations from SEE will be presented.
