LABS, OBSERVATORIES, FACILITIES |
Computational FacilitiesResearch faculty utilize Sun Microsystems Blade 1000 UltraSPARC III 750 MHz and 2000 UltraSPARC III+ 900 MHz Workstations, a 500 MHz Alpha Station, and a Beowulf Cluster. Faculty and their graduate students access these computing facilities via Sun terminals, Windows PCs and Linux PCs located throughout the department. Research computers are supported by the Center for Experimental Computation, Information Technology, and the Physics Department. Faculty, staff, and students use PCs and Suns for text processing, e-mail, graphics, and web browsing. The department maintains scanners and digital cameras for creating graphics used in teaching, research, and web development. A basic computing lab for physics graduate and undergraduate students is located in Fisher 234. |
