Night Sky Live Global Observatory

The Night Sky Live (NSL) Global Observatory's main goal is to continually monitor and archive the entire night sky. The NSL network is made of CONtinuous CAMeras (CONCAMs), each a portable observatory housed in a weatherproof suitcase. Each CONCAM mates a Fisheye lens to a CCD camera under the control of a small computer. CONCAMs have no external moving parts: they are designed to be bolted to a rooftop and connected to power and Ethernet.

CONCAMs are located at many major observatories around the world. Each is connected to a central computer here in Fisher Hall at Michigan Tech. A lab facility at Fisher Hall is used for data storage, data processing, equipment design, construction, and testing.

For information about participating observatories, live images, educational use, software, policy, and data collection, visit the CONCAM website: Night Sky Live.
