Overview - Curriculum"Top 10 technological university" Money Magazine Degrees OfferedMaster of Science The Department of Physics at Michigan Technological University offers nationally ranked programs leading to the MS and PhD degrees in Physics. Applicants with undergraduate majors in physics, materials science, mathematics or engineering are particularly encouraged to apply. Graduate work is performed in areas of national and international importance, including condensed matter/materials research, computational physics, computational biophysics, atomic and molecular physics, and astrophysics. A total of 30 credits is required for the Masters of Science degree. Depending on the program, a student may choose from three degree plans: Plan A-a research thesis); Plan B-an independent study project; or Plan C-course work only. A well prepared student will need a minimum of 12 months to complete the degree requirements. The research course requirements for the PhD degree are established by the student's Advisory Committee. Normally, the program consists of substantial graduate course work and investigation which leads to a significant contribution to the field.
