PURPOSE: To demonstrate that capacitors store electrical energy.

DESCRIPTION: A 7500 microfarad capacitor is charged to 10000 volts using a high voltage power supply. Discharging the capacitor with the special shorting box produces a very loud BANG.

SUGGESTIONS: It is required that the person shorting the capicator wear proper safety equipment. No students will operate this demo.

EQUIPMENT: 7500 microfarad capacitor, high voltage power supply, shorting box as pictured.
