Lamps in Series

PURPOSE: To demonstrate circuit elements

DESCRIPTION: Two 12 volt DC Light bulbs are hooked up in series to the Jump It source. A switch is put around one of the light bulbs. A voltmeter is also put around this light bulb and switch. This voltmeter is placed on a document camera. Ask the students what will happen when the light bulb is shorted out with the switch. The other bulb will burn brighter and the voltmeter will go from about 6 volts to around zero. Open the switch and then ask the students what will happen when the same light bulb is screwed out of scoket. both bulbs will go out and the volt meter will go from abut 6 volts to around 12 volts

EQUIPMENT: Jump It voltage source, Two 12 VDC light bulbs in scokets, Two switches, wires, and digital voltmeter.
