5f30.15: RC CIRCUIT - RC TIME CONSTANT

PURPOSE: To measure an RC time constant and to observe the shape of the charging and discharging curves.

DESCRIPTION: An RC circuit with ten 1 farad capacitors hooked up in a series parallel grid are charged with three 6 volt batteries. They are then discharged through a 12 volt DC light bulb. This RC circuit is hooked up to Data Studio to graph the time constant and displayed on the screen in the classroom. This is then done again but taking 4 capacitors out of the circuit. The time constant is then compaired between the two data runs.

SUGGESTIONS:

EQUIPMENT: RC circuit board with Data Studio setup on a projector.

SETUP TIME: 30 Min.
