PURPOSE: To visualize the magnetic field around a wire, loop, and a solenoid.

DESCRIPTION: The magnetic field around either wire, loop, and a solenoid can be visualized by sprinkling iron filings in the area around where the wire, loop, or solenoid passes through a plastic sheet which is positioned on an overhead projector. The demos have 12 VDC applied to them.

SUGGESTIONS: Be very carefull on how long voltage is applied to the demos. Overheating is a problem. It is suggested that you pulse the switch attached to the demos.

EQUIPMENT: EME magnetic field demos, large 12VDC power supply. and a on overhead projector.
