Cairnes (pronounced "Canes") is located on the northeast coast.
It is in the tropical region and is near the Great Barrier Reef and rainforests.
We visited "Kuranda", a village in the rainforest. It was orginally a tin mining region.

The train from the lowlands to Kuranda. The trestle (right), completed in 1890, is one of the few curved trestles in the world.

A railway cut on the side of Barron Gorge. The route is 75.1km long and includes 15 tunnels.
