Electricity & Magnetism I

               Fall Semester, 2007

Instructor: Dr. John A. Jaszczak (jaszczak@mtu.edu)
Lecture: MWF 1:05 – 1:55 P.M.
Office Hours: M, W 3:00 to 4:00 P.M. or by appointment.

Course Description: A traditional course in electricity & magnetism at the intermediate level aimed toward physics majors. Topics covered will include vector calculus, electrostatics, solution of Laplace's equation, dielectrics, and magnetostatics.

This course aims to develop and apply more mathematical sophistication than you have applied in E&M so far, and also to deepen your physical understanding of the interaction of particles and fields.

Primary Textbook: Electromagnetism, G. Pollack & D. Stump (Addison Wesley 2002).

Additional reference: Introduction to Electrodynamics, D. J. Griffiths (Prentice Hall 1999).

Timeless reference: The Feynman Lectures on Physics, vol. II. (Addison-Wesley 1964).
